didnt like the feel of angel's hooves last night, so i brought her in. nothing obviously wrong (not pottery or particularly slow. she was in fact rather lively to ride last night ...), but i thought its best to be safe (nevermind the manerubbing. her mane is pretty much gone entirely now ...).
anyone else with a laminitic leaving theirs in for a few days? this weather is driving me mad! rain! sun! rain! sun! rain! rain! rain! SUN .....
theres hardly any grass in the field but i suspect the weather has kickstarted something or other ....

This is exactly the weather that caused Rio problems last summer, and whilst I'm not keeping her in full time she is in all morning and then out in a muzzle until teatime. I'm getting fed up with it now!!!:(

Not laminitus, but due to getting wet and cold Forest has lost some condition already.
He was rugged up until yesterday and as I was about to leave the yard today the heavens opened and it was too late to put a rug on him as he would have been soaking already!
So now if it carries on raining his rug will be back on again before he looses more weight!
On the plus side his feet aren't fry anymore, although he has got a loose shoe!

@ martini: im so sorry to hear that :o is she still on thr cushings drugs?
@ yann: i know what you mean ... it feels like there is never going to be a point where i can confidently say that she'll spend the rest of the summer out :o
i've taken angel out again this morning, all seemed fine and she dragged me all the way to the field ... will see how she goes. this weather really is a pain!

She is indeed :) Her bloods came back as perfectly normal after 6months on it and clinical signs have improved, so it's doing it's job. It's just unfortunate that the summer grass is still too much for her. She's happy in her muddy paddock, but it's just a bit of a shame really. I'm hoping she'll be okay on some grass over the winter again though.

our pony was kept on box rest for 3 weeks and then in the yard for nearly 2 months after a mild bout of lami. He's only just gone back in his fat pen in the field, but he's churned it up so badly we've had to give him hay and he'll probably have to come in if it keeps up, which he will hate. Luckily, there isn't a great deal of grass in the paddock, we give him a new strip each day and so far he's coping. He's been so happy to be out despite the weather.

@ martini: glad to hear you have a mudpaddock for her :) at least she doesnt have to be stabled all the time. we havent got a paddock like that (although her field is getting close to a mud only state ....). trying to erxercise her as much as i can, as it seems to help her with grass-coping and also her asthma. mind you, im not one of those 'i must ride every day' people so sometimes it seems almost like a chore to have to ride so much ... esp. with our limited hacking .....
maybe all of us lami - mummies should get together and start the perfect yard :D there'll be grass free coralls, fences that cant be itched on ... it'll be on a hilltop for the itchy ones ... *sigh*

hi all.
Notpoodle - my paddock looks just like yours, in fact maybe more grass than yours and I am managing to leave him out day and night, but I make sure he gets his antilam pellets morning and night.
So far so good, execpt for the upset a few weeks ago, when I tried him on a greener one.
Wish the rain would stop, but then we will complain it is too hot and the horses are too lazy to ride. :D

Yep, my lami has got away with it for past couple of years, but this year she is in from midday to 8pm and out with muzzle rest of time. Doing really well though I must say, but the grass in our field is unbelievable compared to other years, must be global warming lol !!
