you will not be not sore but lessen it by strectching before and after the ride, have a hot bath, and enjoy the pain it doesnt last, i did 36 miles endurance ride and was not too bad the next day apart form my calfs!!

angel pretty much said it!!! I'd say stretch before you ride, 'specially your leg muscles, and loosen up a bit. Then take a long, hot bath, and just soak. Maybe put in some bath salts, just so that it smells good. Don't worry though, everyone is sore all the time. Since I ride only once a week, I wake up the day after my riding lesson with sore muscles. Of course, I never stretch...:)

good advice about streching. I always go for a bike ride before a lesson and don't sit on the saddle, pedal standing sort of. It loosens my muscles great! bath advice is good too! I only ride once every two weeks, I know the pain! :D :p

haha! that's exactly the same as me! people think you're only sore the first couple of weeks of riding, but i've been riding for years and i still get sore!--well, that could just be me though  (everything only happens to me!). i always intend to stretch......but it never quite happens at 7am! :D
bubblebath & mcdonalds does the trick!;)

NEVER just go and sit down after you ride, go for a 20 minute walk afterwards, always works!

Have to agree about the stretching and exercising.. It's when you have a big workout and then just stop, the muscles seize up.. Ugh ouchies!

are you guys saying you have a bubble bath BEFORE or AFTER you ride? lol, as soon as I get home from a lesson I jump in the shower so it wouldnt be practical to have a bath before and after a ride! lol and if im like anyone else the first thing i want to do when i get home from a lesson is shower!!

When i first started riding..talk about OUCH! it only happend for about a week or 2..but after that i was fine!

hmm...i guess this post would have helped me not have been so sore if i had found it sooner..lol.

sounds like good advice..

The reason we all are sore is because we don't ride as often as others, and our muscles are not used to functioning that way. It is routinely once a week, but your muscles have a week to return to their original state of use, then when you ride, you're muscles suddenly function. It's also because our legs are wrapped around the horses barrel. we don't normally stand, sit, walk, with our feet wide apart like that. It stretches the muscles a lot.

I ride 5-6 days a week and something was still hurting!! well its my tailbone, had a pony jump on it when I was lil (12) and winter riding is a constant ache because of the cold!! I have found ways around this including a position change, and when I am really sore, I use a seatsaver which is a gel pad on top of the saddle, and I always get off my horse 5 minutes before we get home when out on a ride and lead him, so I dont get too sore

i always walk my horse around the paddock or yard after a lesson to cool him out and me too! some people just walk on the horse with a loose rein, but it benefits us both when i walk by foot.

When i started riding i was a little sore but not that much but i suppose it depends on the person............it did last for a few weeks though which was annoying:rolleyes: and only when we did strenuous things, did my legs get really sore again lolz which was just about every 2 weeks :D
