Hi,

Bim may possibly need to have a tooth removed.

Just wondering if people could give me an idea of how much it is likely to cost to have a horses tooth removed and what will actually happen. Ie. will it be done at home under sedation or be an actual operation. What aftercare will they need. I don't have stables at home will we manage with a small paddock on her own be ok for recovery or do i need to arrange stabling. She will find this stressful so i'd rather avoid it.

Thanks :)

My youngster had his wolf teeth (2) out a few months ago. He was done under sedation, in his stable. It was all over in 20 mins, apart for waiting ages for the sedation to wear off :). Afterwards, my vet advised me to leave well alone so I just checked inside his mouth a couple of times a day. I don't think he remembers anything about it at all and his mouth healed very quickly. It cost around £75. I'm not sure I would have wanted to do him in the field, some horses can react quite strangely to the sedation and it was nice to have him contained in the stable! I'd ask your vet about doing it outside, they may be quite happy to do this.

angel had hers out with a sedation on the yard. she was allowed straight back in the field again, no aftercare needed (obviously i couldnt ride for a while!)

Thanks thats really helpful. Its one right at the back so im not sure if that makes it more complicated. Not too sure what the problem is yet though, it was just very painful when rasped. Vets out tomorrow now so will quiz them more then :)
