Looking for advice please, am very interested in the old type greenguard muzzle, but have been a bit confused on what size to buy. I have a 14.2hh new forest and the only two muzzle sizes on offer are very large or small. please help!

beware, we found they rubbed their noses raw and also didn't stay in place at all and kept moving to one side so that the horse could still eat without restriction, stopped using it after a couple of weeks.

Ive got my two NF's (they are 13.2hh and 13.3hh) in cob size shires muzzle.
It rubbed one of them initially last year but i overcame that with vaseline and this year have had no problems.
Was put off by my friends experience with the greenguard one
Sorry havent got any more positive things to say

I was put off even trying one as a horse at a previous yard was able to shove it to the side and eat normally. I've used the best friend's muzzle with success :)

I bought one about 3 weeks ago from ebay (£39 - seller 'accidently' left a sticker on that said 'SALE £29.99' !!!! )
Pony had it on 24hours, went to check on him, hes got throught the electric fencing... got the mussle off... and sliced his entire bottom lip open! Now my show horse has an unsightly scar for the summer on his face - i'm hoping it'll have 'vanished' for next season - tho its that big i have my doubts!!
(14.2hh connie (irish) it was the small - which acctually isn't all that small.. hmm.. )

I bought a greenguard muzzle and headcollar off ebay last year for my cob. I tried it once - I stayed in the field with my horse, I tried various ways of adjusting the straps, but it just didnt stay in place. It just kept going to the side, without her even trying to push it or anything. I did not feel happy, leaving it on as I was sure it would have rubbed her lips/nose after a short time. I sold it on. I am now on my 3rd Shires bucket type muzzle. She seems to accept this quite well. She has been wearing it longer lately and it did rub her chin. I've wrapped bandage around the bit on her chin and also on the noseband. I've also put tape and bandages over all the buckles. I also put vaseline on her chin and under her jaw now, before I put it on her.

There're useless. Had one on on my friends horse for half a day and he trashed it and cut his face in the process. Fixed it then he learnt to push it to the side as it could eat the grass normally then. The shire's muzzles are the best by far.

We have 4 ponies wearing them without problems?
Owners just use a normal headcollar I think, and tie the mask on with baling twine all round.
One has blister from the mask but that healed up fine with cream even hough nask still on. None of the others have had problem. All are small section A/shetland X type ponies.

trial and error then, for some it'll fit others it won't.
ok it's hanging up not in use at moment, but in case i need it i'll have a go, don't like the shires bucket type, neither did he:mad: if he could swear he would have.
