Having trouble controlling my horse in arena

Im having real trouble relaxing my horse in a arena when competing
He warms up very well and goes forward into my hand, picks up from behind and altogether goes amazing. But as soon as he comes to peform a test he gets very tense and tends to run out of arena, not matter what i do. I have been showing and competing for years so nerves for me are not a problem. Any tips on what i can do

I found Rescue Remedy very helpful - a generous dose on a bit of carrot before I left home and just before taking him out the trailer helped. He took it no bother.

Or what about trying something like Oxyshot. It seems to get rave reviews. You will probably only need one or two decent outings and he'll settle himself afterwards.
