how long do you leave it after you have had hay taken off your field before you let horses graze on it again. any tips for pasture management? is it better to give field a rest or not? i know one year i put horses back on after a month or so and it was the 1st time my old horse came down with laminitus.

This year grass will grow rapidly, so be VERY CAREFULL about leaving it too long. There is always long areas round a field that get left also. You are better going on after a couple of days before the grass gets too long, keeping it low prevents Fructants in the grass that cause Laminitis raising to the top. Quite often, grass has started to grow even before the Hay has been taken away. Dont forget, most hay fields have been fertilized, which makes them VERY DANGEROUS to horses.
