I've heard it mentioned a few times on here so toddled off to google and am very interested. Older (16 year old) cob is currently on cortaflex, does get slightly stiff when in. especially if baby has been running him ragged and booting him in the field :rolleyes:
For those of you who feed pernamax, why? for what symptoms? has it helped? is it any better than something like cortaflex or equiflex or can the two be combined? do you use the gel or the tablets?
my mum has used the human equivelant (gel) on her dislocated finger and it's done wonders for taking down swelling and aiding healing so i'm intrigued to fine out if the equine products are as good. ta :)

Horse - 16.2 Andalusian Gelding - 11yrs old
Problem - Arthritus (mild) in both knees, transfering minimally to hocks.
Pernamax type/duration = Tablets, 3 aday (crushed into feed) for 6months i had him.
Before Pernamax - Looked ever so slightly lame in trot and canter, lethargic, stroppy about his legs (eg, it hurt to have his legs stretched out and he would drop to floor). Struggled with tight turns, and wasn't a fan of schooling in a school due to size of avaliable area (20 x 40 )
After/During Pernamax - Trotted up sound (as 1/20th lame in trot before), more relaxed in himself, paces free-er, happier to work. Did some jumping without issue, Knees became slightly less 'swollen' (didn't look swollen before hand but they deffinatly changed slightly in appearence on the drug.)
Overall i think it did help this horse, and when/if i ever get a horse with arthritis or any joint complications i think they'll be straight on it - i give it to my youngster hap-hazardly after hard work, or when hes been playing about abit just to keep him ticking over. Obviously haven't seen an impact on him as he has no joint issues.

hiya- i would recommend it 100% for equine, human and canine. I take it (for broken finger/joint pain- tablet ones), my GSD has it for arthritis and my horse has it for arthritis. I had the McTimony lady come out on monday to do my horse who she hasnt seen for about 8 months and she was gobsmacked at the difference in him and said if she hadnt known about his previous problems /injury then she wouldnt have picked it up looking at him now. He's tracking up, has no associated pain (you know when he's hurting !!) and is forward going and happy and the only thing he is on is pernamax (4 a day) and grass so i'm putting it down to the pernamax.
Likewise my german shepherd seems less stiff on it and my fingers certainly dont hurt anymore and i only take it once a week now and its still doing the job for me.
would heartlily recommend it - give it a go and you'll horse will soon tell you if its working. My boy was on Bute and cortavet previously and i didnt want him on it long term so looked around for something else and found pernamax through a friends recommendation . worth every penny!

i did look at the cost after posting this and it's expensive. But i guess if it works its worth a shot! good to hear positive feedback on it. do you guys feed it as and when or long term? interesting love2jump2 that you mention giving it after hard work. I only have a grass paddock to ride in and do worry about horses joints working in there. think it might be worth trying :)

My daughters new pony was put on this after a bout of lami, although now the farrier seems to think it was SEVERE foot soreness after a harsh trim{not my farrier}
She is 11.2 and was told to give her 6 tab! yes 6 a day, although we have struggled to find ways for her to eat them whole, now going to crush them!
She is 110% better BUT she has been on box rest for a week and had front shoes put on, expensive tabs, but this pony is now being riden and is sound as a pound
