Hi,

I am a male, I've been saying i would start riding for years and finally going to get around to it in the next month, and I have given into the girlfriends demands to get it over with so i can go with her

my question is what would men wear in general for riding?... i dont think i could wear jodhpurs and wouldnt wear them to start with... i am really uncertain what to wear, i am going to be buying the boots to begin with but unsure on what other kind of clothing men generally wear

any help would be appreciated

lol why not jods?? If youare paranoid then they do jods which are like jeans. My ex wouldnt wear jeans after a while as he found them uncomfortable mens jods are okay you can get ones that arent as tight around that area as womens!! Just a pair of yard boots are okay, as long as the struipp irons are not too big. But jod boots with chaps or long boots are safer

tracksuit bottoms are fine, jeans or anything with a seam can be a bit eyewatering though. supportive pants too!

Although I agree with manwell, jods are definately the best option long term, for the first few lessons at least just a comfortable not too baggy pair of trousers will do, go for something like joggers/tracksuit bottoms that have a bit of stretch to them for comfort!

Thanks for the help, i have to admit i dont own tracksuit bottoms, i am strictly a jeans man, I will do my best to find something without seams, i can imagine it might be a bit eye watering anyway, most likely be sore for a long time after

A bit of advice my ex would never sit in my saddle as the pommel was too high if you know what i mean.....:o beware of saddles made for women!!! And wear tighter fitting boxers not baggy ones more comfortable apparently!

i wear cotton trousers (old PE ones) as long as they arent jeans (sum skools dont like them) and they're not too loose they'll be fine

If you don't want to wear jods then i think tracksuit bottoms are the way to go - i know lots of people who ride in them and choose them over jods - and you can pick up a pair pretty cheap, too so it doesn't matter if you get them mucky or anything :). And good luck with your riding :)!

Jods aren't that bad - OH wears them and looks just fine. Just make sure you don't go for the short jod boot look and no chaps!!!hehehehe. OH always wears long riding boots with his - or wellies for yard duties! He wouldn't recommend jeans, they rub after a while.

mens jods are acually ok but too many men buy the cheap tight ones **cringes**, a good pair will be expensive and so if you dont like riding you may have wasted your money in the jods!!

i would go to primark - they have loads of cargo baggy long shorts that the bottom could tuck into long boots (i dont reccomend riding bare legged though!). or why not get a cheap pair of chinos? ok wrong colour but they are baggy enough around the "area":o:D

they will also have trackies
