Cosmel is fed at the moment - heaped scoup of hi fi, cup of Baileys lo cal, garlic & carrots. She is out 24/7 and has just started work again after an injury induced box rest.

She seems extrememly hungry when coming in in the evening and dives on her hay and feed. Her field has grass but not a great amount.

She obviously has lost a lot of muscle from being on box rest and is not skinny at all (not ribby at all) but should i add something else to her feed to help build up the muscle? Her back end is the most noticable with loss of muscle.

I realise that it is only work that can build up muscle and that is what we are doing but would something else help without adding fizz or giving her too much weight?

Many thanks for your help

how much work is she doing at the moment?

i dont think it sounds like she needs more food yet but depends on her workload.

Hi xloopylozzax, We are only in walk & trot at the mo and not asking anything stressful of her as we have only been back on track for 2 weeks so building slowly. ridden about 4 / 5 times a week for 30 mins upwards mostly walk and introducing trot now.

In the past 2 weeks while we have been riding again her girth has not changed and if anything has lessened just slightly. I do not want her to put on any weight really, its muscle really and i know that is going to come with work but her back end is just a bit thin...no muscle not rounded if that makes sense.

not sure bout adding but it might pay to concider taking out the garlic, i found out recently it's actually toxic to horses(it's not known in what concentration but it's still dangerous) if it's because of fly's that ** using it then another way to use it s to soak it in water and spray it all over your horse's coat(not toxic on the coat) there are a few other uses for garlic but there is alternatives for around the same price if u ask ** stockfeeders

i'm not 100% sure on the toxicity of garlic but just thought u might want to know what i've bin told by a few ppl :)
