Bumpy skin

Hi,

My thoroughbred has developed very bumpy skin - if he were human it would be as if he has come out in a rash. His veins also are more defined than normal. I wonder if this could be an allergy? He has moved fields recently. Also I have introduced garlic into his feed also, if this has any significance.

He lives out 24/7 and I've never seen this before in the 3 years I've owned him.

is there nettles in his field ....or possibley alot of shaded places (ie. under trees) as there would be alot of horse flies here which alot of the time if they bite will leave a bump (usually only one where they had bitten)

how recently did you introduce the garlic? and how recently did you move him?

sounds lke my TBx she got the same thing i had the vet check her out.. just allergies

Sounds like an allergy of some sort.

i had that recently with my TB and the vet diagnosed a food allergy of some sort - he was on box rest so easier to eliminate foodstuffs though I'm not convinced we have got to the bottom of it yet.

The vet decided it was food related because of how the rash was spread evenly.

Another TB came in from the field with bumps and that was nettle rash.

It can be very difficult to find what they are allergic to esp if they were out in the field. 've been doing 3 weeks of food elimination and I'm still not sure - just when I think i have identified the culprit he throw another reaction in just to keep me guessing.

If it bothers him the vet can give you antihistamines to clear it up.

Does anyone know is this TB thing - seems to be a few rashes at the moment

Thanks for the replies. It seems to tie in with him moving fields and I have been thinking it is nettles - there are lots of hedges, trees and nettles in the field. I'll move him again and see if it makes a difference.
