Done my first test = dressage score query

Hi I have done my first ever beginners dressage test today and we really enjoyed it. We have a lot of work to do mainly on correct bending and we did struggle keeping straight down the centre line (I am afraid we both have very little schooling experience!) I got a score of 42.68. I got 4's, 5's and one 6. Can anyone give me some idea as to how we have done as I am not quite sure where we stand with the score like its it really bad?? Thanks xx

it's not bad for you first test I would aim for 6,7,8's 9 and 10's bonuses

Thats a fair score for your first test but a 4 means that you performed that movement insufficient. So that is something that i would look at and work on more.

What did the judge put as the comments at the end of the sheet??

I usually go with what htey have said to try and improve for the next test.

Thanks for your replies. The comments at the end were that we need to establsh correct bend which I knew already. Most of the 4's were for wrong bend. I am going to have some lessons and then have another attempt! It would be nice to try and get the marks up to more 5's next time. :)

it seems you got it sussed :) good on you as some people i know think the judge is blind when clearly they need to put in some training! lol

A score in this region is perfectly acceptable for a first time out. As you do more classes and get familiar with the dressage routine, the 4's will get less frequent - turning into 6's.

Relaxation is the key; keep it easy and soft and you'll be surprised how quickly the 50-60% region will become your normal score. For now, just ride the shapes and enjoy yourself.

Done my second walk and trot dressage test today and came 2nd, we got 68.98 %. I am so chuffed as a couple of weeks ago I came last with 42.68% !!

Forgot to say we got 6's, 7's and an 8. Judge said we nearly got a 9 :D. I can't believe it !!:D

WOW - that's a HUUGE improvement Well done ! Did you take lessons in between times or have you just figured things out ?

I love those early tests - you can improve your marks so much by looking at what the judge wrote last time, and working on it, can't you ? I was so pleased with my last one, after I'd done that and the judge wrote that we were a lovely pair :) Awww...
