Had a fabulous time this morning. My friend and I hired the local x country course and our instructor came along to give us a lesson. I really enjoyed xc in my teens, but now I am approaching 50 I find it (and jumping in general) very scary!
My first reaction on arriving and seeing some of the fences was "I don't want to jump any of them" - but I quickly overcame my wussiness and ended up doing several mini courses, including the bank, water jump and some rather scary ditches! :p Didn't jump more than 2ft 6ins, but had fantastic fun. And my instructor took Cariad over some of the larger fences and she absolutely flew them! :D
Friend's partner took lots of videos, so looking forward to seeing them later on. :D

Yeh, where are those videos!! * taps fingers on desk*
Fabulous that you had such a great time.
XC is something totally different. The horses tend to really enjoy it.

I haven't got a clue how to put videos on here. :o My friend gave them to me on a CD and they are just short clips. Do I have to upload them somewhere first, or can I copy them straight on here??
Here's a pic though - bit small as it was copied direct from the video and a bit blurry any bigger. :D

Thanks IM. Although my mare is a really confident jumper, I still have wobbles with bigger fences. I was trying to work out how big that tyre jump in the pic is - do you think it is 2ft 3 ins? I've agreed to do clear round xc with my friend next month, and the course is 2ft 3ins. But I have to be certain within my own mind that I've already jumped that height.
If it helps with judging the jump height, my mare is 16.2hh.

Wow well done, i lovethe look of that horse in your pic, what kind is he, kind i would love, the bigger the better lol.
You gave me lots of inspiration, as i am coming up 40 this year :( and feel old, and think maybe i am to old for this horse idea, but you have changed my mind. Well done on your XC lessons.

Yeah I'd say it was about 2ft 3 but it looks like your mare would have no problem with a higher jump :)

I know Beating Hooves - she has no problem with higher jumps ... it's just me!
Storm35 -she's Welsh x TB. I have only had her a year and she has really given me loads of confidence. You are definitely not too old. I was 48 this year, and got back in to horses by having a mid life crisis at 40 and buying a TB! Having had 20+ years off from horses!! So go for it. I am a lot less brave than I was in my teens (when I would jump anything, and probably bareback!!) but it is still amazingly good fun.
Essexgirl - we hired the course at Wix. Loads of jumps in various fields and woods too. It was £15 per horse, but for that price you could stay there as long as you like. Here's a link to their website.

Well done. I know exactly how you feel. I recently started riding cross country and I love it. I get so nervous beforehand but feel fantastic after.
