I am looking to take up riding lessons again after 4 years of doing only light hacking. I moved to Birmingham 4-5 years ago from North Wales and have had to leave my two IDx at home due to time and cost. I take them out only occassionally but used to ride daily and have weekly lessons which i miss!

I want to start having lessons again with a view in the short/medium term to bringing my horses to Birmingham for at least part of the year. I would hugely appreciate any suggestions of a decent riding school, which provides private lessons of a decent standard, with ideally livery facilities.

I live pretty much in the city centre of Birmingham, as such anywhere in the Midlands would work.

Many thanks in advance.

My daughter who is 15 goes to Seechem in Rowney Green near Alvechurch. I can thoroughly recommend it. The horses are superb - nothing like 'riding school plods' - and the lessons are really good. There is an indoor and outdoor menage plus a cross country course, jumping paddock and super hacking. They do livery but I'm not sure how much they charge.

There's North Worcs Equestrian centre to the south, just past Northfield.

Another vote for Seechem. They are less than half a mile from me and people speak exceptionally well of them. Also in Wythall there are Truemans Heath RS and Brookhouse, both of which are reported to be good.

To get to this side of Brum from the centre just drive out along the Alcester Road through Moseley and Kings Heath (absolute direct route) or along the Pershore road then turn left out to Wythall at Kings Norton.

I can back up Wally's suggestion, North Worcester is great, they have fabulous tuition available with very well qualified quality instructors and lovely horses. They have a website too so you can check out the details:

They also breed some gorgeous haffis there!

I have a horse at a lovely yard in Burton-on-Trent, not far off the A38 (so ideal if you're coming from Brum). It'd probably take you half an hour maybe?

The livery standards are excellent, a nice menage, pretty much flat grassland, very friendly staff and other liveries and there's three instructors - two of whom have done it all, got the t-shirt and are fantastic to just speak to, let alone learn from! The staff will work with you and will suit your requirements (ie turnout/fetch out/feed/muck out if you're away or can't make it one day).

It's not a posh, American barn style yard, the riders are not international showjumpers and they don't have a fancy website ... but it is a down to earth, friendly place where everyone looks out for each other and cares. Just to top it off, they run a farm shop on site too at the weekend (visitors to there don't go through the yard or by the horses so no security issues).

Oh, it's called Craythorne Farm - let me know if you want their details.

Hi
Wishaw riding school are good - both me and my son went there - think they were about £25 for 1/2 hour for me 1 to 1. Now I have my own horse have just started having lessons with an instructor that comes out to us - she is excellent - if you want to have her details when you get your horses here let me know.

Bournvale in Sutton coldfield is very good. the cheif Instructor Peter won nat champ intermdiate dressage some years ago. It can be reached by bus from the town centre its about 35 mins bus ride. You get off at the stop for Streetly crem.

Another vote for Bournevale. It's professionally run and friendly too.
