Spanish walk, jambette, back crunch

My horse does the spanish walk when he gets excited or is enjoying himself/showing off and I googled it to see some videos and came across these other terms too. I couldn't see what the differance between SW and Jambette were and I'm just not sure what the 'back crunch' is at all - or even if it is desirable! :p

Can anyone give me definitions of these 3 moves? As far as I am aware SW is the lifting of the front leg and throwing them out high and straight infront of them?

Thanking you in advance! :)

I think in a correct spanish walk the normal footfalls of walk are maintained, and there is an exaggerated movement of the front legs. What one often sees presented as spanish walk is just a kicking out at the front and the sequence and rhythm broken in the hind legs, but I don't think this is technially correct - though almost certainly easier to achieve!! ;)

I wasn't familiar with Jambette - but a quick google suggests it's a possible step towards SW by just concentrating on the front legs - so they can be kicked forwards in halt, for example, without reference to what the hind legs are doing.

Goodness knows what back crunch is - maybe either what you get from bending over trying to get the horse to kick its front legs out, or possibly what my gelding does when you wash under his tail with cold water - and he looks like he's going to sit down!! :D:D

Cheers Kate, I have been looking and came across the Art of Natural Dressage website which seems to say Jambette is similar to spanish walk only it is done from halt as you said.

Back crunch seemed to be a stretch where they stand with their back legs stretched out - I think it is used as a precursor to trick training with such things like the bow/curtsey.

Took a little while to find though but google didn't let me down in the end! :D

jamebette
is when the horse lifts front legs and holds it.
yuo would teach this towards a spanish walk well some would some wouldnt there is pros and cons.

and spanish walk is when they lift each fron leg right out infront of them whilst walking.
