In my last riding lesson we were doing some jumping. Unfortunately on my second round I fell off:o. It was pretty embarressing lol. I'm going to my next lesson on Saturday and we're doing jumping again so I was wondering if anyone had any advise for me on how to stay in the saddle and jump better. I've jumped a few times before but not big jumps (2ft the biggest.) but we didn't do the jumping position and were just told to lean back (which I found easier and even jumped with no reins.:D)
So any advise anyone?

tbh you should always do jump position or you'll get flung out of the saddle an the pony cant jump properly and you will probabaly jab them in the mouth.
get your jump position sorted, ask your RI for help. grab a piece of mane and you should be fine as long as you get off their backs abit ;):p

I know this is difficult if you have a group lesson but ask your RI to make you trot in jumping position, walk and stand, and do transitions. That's how I was taught, and I wasn't allowed to jump a pole till I could stay in the jumping position!

you should have been taught jumping position while trotting over the trotting poles. You never lean back while going over a jump.. 50 years ago you did but not these days.. is your instructor an old army general by any chance??
if you are jumping two foot, then you really need to learn the position.. anything could go wrong.. you could fall off, but that's the least of your worries. you could hurt the horse by jabbing him in the mouth with the bit, you could land heavily on his back, injuring it. you could put both yourself and your horse off jumping, which in turn will make you tense, and your horse may start to rush his fences, putting other riders off.

Use to jump a lot when I was younger,in them days you just sat straight untill you got a few paces from the jump then went into jumping position
gave horse plenty of rein so he could stretch looked forward to where you wanted to land on other side and held on...:)Good luck
