Ossifying Myopathy:

Question has anyone heard of this condition? i have tried searching for it on the net but with no results. Apparently this is quite common in horses who have spent alot of time on hills, western horses stopping suddenly on their haunches and some hunters. My horse has this condition i thought he had stringhalt but apparently not and although he has never really spent a long time on a hill he has been hunted with previous owner. He kind of lifts his hind legs up and back slightly before they hit the ground it's quite noticeable.
Any feedback would be appreciated:)

Never heard of it but the name suggests calcium deposits or bone formation in the muscles.

If you stick ossifying myopathy into google it comes out with quite a few web sites.... Here's the description from the fist website I looked at.....

Fibrotic or ossifying myopathy is a mechanical lameness caused by improper healing of an old injury to a muscle belly. Scar tissue forms and the muscle loses its ability to stretch. The result is the appendage loses it's ability to move through the normal range of motion. There are several muscles in the horse that seem to be predisposed to this complication. Either term fibrotic myopathy or fibrotic myositis is correct and whether it is fibrotic or ossified depends on the age and extent of the injury.
