What's the red stuff? Lava? Do you keep your horses by the side of a vulcano? In the UK? Very suspicious...

Good point, Karin, that first was rather vulcanic looking wasn't it?
But seriusly, Esther, you have some very lovely pictures. The horses are gorgeous.

the red is probably a reflection of the wun on the ground or something. i get it in some of my piccies if theyare taken earliuer in the morning or later in the evening.

The red in the background could be flowers or something growing in a field. You can get some strange coloured fields but still I havn't seen one like this.

It's the sunset on the hill, reflected is it not?
Looks suspiciously like a Shetland Voe!

Wally was right about the red - it was the sunset! We couldn't believe the colour....as the sun was going down the red light travelled across the hills...amazing...
I have never been to Shetland (it is on my list of places to visit when I get the time and money!) but I can see how it can look similar. The photo was taken on the edge of Greenlee Lough (or lake for the non-Northumbrians!) which is near the field.
Today it was all snow but bright sunshine too so it looked lovely, on route to the field yesterday we kept seeing photographers all setting up their tripods to catch the sun setting over the snow.
Here is another photo taken the same night as the original one,
oh and Fred I don't know the place in the photo, although I do know Brampton (lovely photo though).

If I could post pictures I'd post you one of Ronas Hill at sunset, the granite is pink/red and then we get similar blazing sunsets and the whole place looks like it's on fire. That's how I recognised the effect on the first picture.

Exellent photo Esther, we get a same effect on the Chase when the dead bracken turns to brilliant colour in the sunset, John tried to capture it on boxing day.
The piebold horse looked amazing with the deep red reflection on their coat.
Good luck getting photos Wally.
