My surprise Christmas gift was a WelshPony and her philly! They are a dream for just about anybody! Here is my problem. The philly was doing fine being around her mom, going to the shelter when it was raining or cold or to eat. Now that I introduced the philly to two other horses, she does not want to go to the stable at night w/ her mom and that concerns me as I fear for her health. Any advices? I have run in sheds only and cannot lock them up because I live 50minutes from my job and would need to be up around 5 in the am.(If that is what I have to do, then I will do it), but I am just recovering from a major brochites & that would take a lot out me health. No, I don't have anybody who could help me out.:)
Another question. They are both on a large round pen. I did not put them withthe other 2 horses yet. I have a nice mare and a domeneering guelding. When can I put them all togehter? I'm afraid the philly might get hurt. Thanks!!!

Since she is so young and small - it may be that the other horses have established dominance over her and will not let her "in their space" therefore not letting her in the shed.

Maybe just giving the group time during supervised sessions will allow them to accept her over time. If her safety is a concern, I'd keep them seperate till she is a bit older.

I would wait until your filly is a lot older and stronger before mixing her with the others. I remember after my mare had her foal, when the foal was about 4 months or so, we put them in with the others. Immediately they chased them around and deliberately seperated mum away from the foal. They did settle down eventually but it was a bit anxious.

We had one born in November and that was well over 10 years ago when we used to get a lot of snow. Although she was tiny and we were worried about her, on her mothers milk she did very well.

Just keep an eye on her. Good luck and enjoy the filly.
