Hi all,
I decided on a whim that I am going to go to Nationals after all. I had a talk with my instructor and I can get a ride with them. Its held in the same island as I live (in fact its South Canterbury---there are 2 main islands here in case you didnt know) and I am probably going to go....!!!! this is huge
Im not doing any of the big championship classes this year, but its mainly for a taste of what its all about.
The classes I am planning on doing are:
non championship horse 1 metre and 1.05 metres
and show hunter classes as Cheeky likes those :
welcome hunter 90cm
first year registration 90cm
open hunter 1 metre
oooh this is cooooool!! expensive to enter though (well it is to me :( )
its held over 3 days, how coool........14, 15 and 16 February

Entries havent closed yet, but I am having a major freak out!! I might just cut back on a couple of classes I think. And it all depends on my ride to the show !
Thank you for all the support! I love this site! :)

I am quite disappointed to say that I am not going :(
My ride to the nationals has fallen through, the entries are far too expensive and the ground is so much like concrete that I cannot do any practise at all!!
I am going to definitely put it in the books for next February though!!
I am going to Canterbury champs instead which are the week after, that is still big, they are the regional champs for where I am from.
I feel stupid now for getting so excited about it :(
But Canterbury champs will be big anyway, and yes I will definitely have photos from that!!
I have dressage this weekend and I will get photos from that too :)

Aw, drat :( I'm sure it would have been fun. I've occasionally gotten excited about going somewhere then not been able to go ... especially last fall when I just could not breathe. I know how you feel. No reason to feel silly, going WOULD have been exciting.
I hope you have just as much fun at the Canturbury show :)

Thank you galadriel, I was feeling like such a dolt!
Its been so hard to get any jumping practise in here!! the ground is like rock, and Im not risking splints for anything!!
I hate getting so excited over nothing
but definitely next year! I think that I am pushing me and Cheeky a little too hard at the moment. I have only had him for a year, so theres heaps of time to do these things :)

Too bad about not going. Still, you sound like your making a wise decision that will be in the best interest of both of you. No reason to feel silly about getting excited. Like Galadriel said, there was every reason to get excited, but you had to make a tough decision. Besides, your announcement still holds true. You are going to the Nationals - next year. And we'll all be here to cheer you on then. In fact, we'll start now. Knock 'em dead Cochise!

Hi, its held in Ashburton in the South Island this year, which is an hour from where I am. Now I know where everything is, etc etc I will be much more set up in my planning for everything well in advance for next year, everything has snuck up on me a bit at the moment. I have just spent an hour with my horses breeder filling in Registration forms for the Mainland Appaloosa show, 1 and 2 February. We are aiming for the National high points prize for appaloosas in English events, if it isnt this year for that there is always next year :D
as for doing lots of cool events, Cheeky loves different stuff, he gets really really bored otherwise

good luck in your regionals. and don't feel stupid about getting excited about the possibility of competing at the nationals, it's something to get excited about and besides, it gives you another year to work with cheeky...
