We are planning on breeding our mare this spring and one of the stallions I'm interested in is in Virginia. This is quite a haul for us in New York, but we are driving south in April on a vacation for a week, anyways. If mare was in heat, we could drop her there while we went on, but obviously there's only a 30% chance she's come into heat that week of the month. Anyone know if the vets can give her shots to bring on heat? I'm probably not going to mess with nature, and will bring her to a local stud, but I am curious. (This Virginia owner doesn't do AI yet.)

This isn't precisely related to your question, but I've noticed a tendency in a lot of mares to go into heat after travelling/arriving at a new place. (I wonder if it was stress-induced, or just being able to smell new BOYS!!, or what?)

There is in the UK, so ask your vet.
