when i open the stable door, kainer often tends to try to barge his way through it (he got through one day and legged it up the road cause the farmer had left the gate open:eek:). also when im standing in the yard with him, for example when waiting to go back in to the stable, he rarely stands still. he has to spin around or walk forwards. sometimes does this when i dismount and am putting stirrups up. its prob no huge deal but its annoying and rude and just shows his bad manners.he is only nine so should be able to get rid of this nasty habit. anyone know how to tackle it??

The barging one will take flailing arms and making yourself 'big' so that he learns you're the one to respect.

The problem with the standing still is bad manners and you're right to want to tackle it. When he moves of his own accord, make it more difficult for him by backing up a few steps and forward a few steps then ask him clearly to 'Stand'. Continue this til he gets it....it won't happen overnight but he'll soon get the hang that it's easier just to stand when asked.

Good luck!

Re the stable door being open, I put my back to Beau to prevent him coming out + push back! Hand on chest, shove and a firm no. Sounds like you would benefit from some groundwork lessons (maybe NH?) but I'm not the person to give advice there.

You can get chains that go across stable doors, and can left done up when the door is closed. When you open the door the chain will stop the horse barging out and you can just go under it to get in the stable.
