my horse has sore legs

My horse has had sore legs since october. It isn`t making it hard for her to do anything, but if you touch her legs she tries to push you away.

It only hurts on her front two legs and it is like the end of having mud fever.

We have used baby oil to coal-tar shampoo plus varies creams

It is like a flaky skin on top from the knee downwards. It is red sore and it is like a scab coming off too early. It is like crusty yellow scabbs in clumps attached to the hairs on the legs.

Her legs are much better when we use baby oil ltion but it still does not heal.

Have you consulted your vet? It sounds like it may well be mud fever.Does the horse have any trouble with its hindlegs? Have you been bandaging its legs?-(Don't).
Is he stabled or out? What bedding is he on? Have you tried Zinc and Castor Oil Cream?

Sounds like infected skin. Get the vet to have a look. Could be bacterial or fungal. He may send a scrape to the lab for testing. I would get it sorted while the weather is dry, come winter you may have real trouble clearing it up.

Try a gel with aloe vera or teatree in it - soothing and anti fungal/bacterial.

Claire thankyou for the advise, my horse was stabled when her sore legs began but now she is in the field day and night for a couple off weeks. We didn`t bandege her legs we thought it was a good idea not to. She has no problem with her back legs there fine. We have a vetanary nurse who has a horse on our farm and the vets at her practise said it wasn`t insects(flies).

Dave here (Claires other half) She says it could be an irritation caused by straw? Was your horse bedded on straw?
we are determined to get to the bottom of this. We'll let you know what we found out, or you let us know if you find out sooner.
