Ha i misread it the first time as i thought you said he didn't look like one!! lol I was told by the Ardenne society of great britain (now closed) that it was his weight that meant he was a X. He weighs approx 600-640kg depending on time of year. But a friend who also has one thinks he is, just abit finer than a full breed.
Have you owned one? Or just love the breed? :)

Absolutely gorgeous, but how sure are you of his breeding??
I only ask as I would have put money on the fact there is a fair amount of clydie in there, typical sabino (think that's the right term, feel free to correct if wrong chev;)) splash markings usually found in the clyde and a lot of clyde in the head I would say.
Will post a pic of my clydie beastie to compare, and because she is eligible for this thread being most definitely what you would call a heavyweight:rolleyes:
One of the nicer one's I have of her, think she looks *almost* pretty in this one

All the one's on this thread are lovely, but this lady is my type of horse, absolutely stunning:)
Wouldn't like to guess at breed either, she looks to have a little bit of clyde or other heavy horse type around the head, but not certain. Is she a bit cow hocked by any chance?? Often a common indicator of a bit of heavy horse in there somewhere,as some are bred cow hocked (the clyde definitely, and think the shire but not certain).
Whatever she is,she is one of the prettiest 'heavies' I've ever seen.

I'd say there's something heavy in there - Clyde or Shire or something. Neither Welshies nor Haffies have that kind of head or feather.

Yay I must be right if chev agrees:D
I thought clyde chev, due to the head and markings, would you concur??
Also was I right about it being sabino?? (see my previous post bottom of page two,did leave a reference for you to correct if wong;))
chev
18th Nov 2008, 06:40 PM
Yes, it is sabino - common in Clydes and Shires although the Clydes seem to express it more loudly at times - you see more roaning on Clydes than you do on Shires for some reason. Sabino also occurs in Welshies (and Shire blood was introduced to the Welsh cobs in the early days) but Welshies don't have that kind of feather nor that type of head.

no she isnt noticably cowhocked, just the way she was standing. such a huge head and very long in the back for a coc, plus lack of mane lengh, kinda like the idea of clyde in there plus at 15hh3/16hh never measured and no size on passport, shes a bit big for a cob!

I think years ago when the shires used to plough they would plait there manes so they wouldn't get it cought in the machinery and its a tradition thats gone on into the showing ring.
The ribbon is 'french plaited' into the mane and the flights (the parts that stick up) are attatched to wire which is plaited in at the same time as the ribbon. It is incredably(sp?) difficult!

Hi folks...
Just wanted to say your horses are all gorgeous! During the summer I started riding a clydesdale cross- blue roan with a white face and white legs (he's out for the winter now). I've always loved heavy horses and native ponies especially when they get their winter coats and look like bears :D
More piccies please (especially of clydie foals, they always have the best facial expressions!)

Funnily enough, the last Clydie-cross I rode was also a blue roan! Brilliant canter on him, too!

I wanted to post a picture of my lad as a comparison to your gorgeous big Belgian Drafts, we're a bit unsure of his breeding, we know his father is defo Belgian (16.3hh), however my boy was sold as a Dutch Draft. I think his mum must have been a lot smaller to produce him - he's only 15.2hh, just wondered what you thought. Excuse the hairdo, he was standing so nicely I got a bit carried away - he responded by throwing me off the same day!
