Thought I'd take advantage of the new section :)

My OH went out on Tuesday and bought the dogs a new bed, I didn't check it out and just thought 'oh that looks nice, they'll probably rip it to shreds'...I didn't realise it was a blimmin' beanbag!

When I got home from work last night I had a lot of cleaning to do. There were polystyrene balls everywhere

So I'm on the lookout for a new dog bed which they can't wreck, but I want something comfy too. The older pup digs his dog bed and just rips it up, and the younger pup likes to play 'tug of war' with hers.

Any suggestions? What bed can stand up to these two monsters?

a heavy duty plastic bed with an old jumper or towel in it or a blanket, something cheap,

they will last about 6 months

tuffies are tough... but i wouldn't recommend the normal ones as they smell unless you wash them regularily! :o their kennel hose down ones are also tough and don't smell - but are plasticy material.....

so that doesn't really help does it! lol - but it does tell you what not to buy!!! ;)

Tuffies waterproof one that can be hosed: ours have yet to ruin this one and it's the only one that's lasted more than a month. They tend to play team tag with beds-one outside the dog flap pulling, one inside pushing it out with his little paws! I came home with a mate to 'slaughtered sheep' lookalike kitchen with other beds. Failing that, staple tough cord carpet to MDF/plank and let them try to detsroy it! Fab and can be made to fit corners/moved. (Hint: they won't destroy the bed if they're on yours with you!!!)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. The idea of a platic dog bed and some old blankets sounds good and cheap. I like it ;)

The Tuffies ones look great but I am loathed to pay out that much for a dog bed when my two are so ungrateful.

And this made me laugh out loud>>> (Hint: they won't destroy the bed if they're on yours with you!!!)

Actually that's not true, the older one dug through the sheet and then dug a hole in my matress while I was asleep :D

i bought two tuffies thinking they would be amazing - yes they are indestructable but with two working gun dogs (one a spaniel) who come in all muddy and wet they tend to smell if we don't wash they regularily - so personally i think not worth the money....

Hi,
Having cleared up after a jumbo bean bag and Doberman 'argument' I don't bother buying 'dog beds' if I can help it.
I go to Asda (or other supermarkets esp if sale on!!) buy cheap single duvet, put it in a duvet cover (work near an Ikea, bargain) hey presto Dobe, JR terrier and cat happy as Larry. Yes they sleep together !!
Added bonus......... Duvet and cover easily fit in washing machine.
I would recommend Komfipet on ebay before pet superstores if a duvet wont suffice, not indestructable but good quality :)

I have a Dalmatian who likes to destroy her bed now and again.

Just now I have a plastic bed that I bought on line. Inside I have part of a Duvet inside a home made cover and on top I have a layer of thick vet bed ( also bought on line) I have found that she can not destroy the vet bed and it washes/dries really easily. It's warm and comfortable too :)

I had a bean bag bed for her when she was younger. When I came home from work one night she had ripped it open and gorged herself on the beans!! She pooed polystyrene beads for the next 2 days  They're not called 'Dustbin dogs' for nothing!!

Excellent quality, tough, machine washable and very reasonably priced :)

our puppies always had a huge plastic bed with an old sheepskin jacket in it... they were labs and apart from chewing the corner a bit the bed survived over 10 years.

the walls however were re-plastered every year!

Tell me about it, I'm going to have to have the render on the extension at the back of the house re-done as Jessica-Sausage thinks removing it is great fun.

Seriously though, my dogs are walked for at least 2 hours per day off lead and are pretty good dogs. It is only bed wrecking and render that take abuse ;) They are model citizens really and are well trained, happy pups :p

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions, I'm loving this new 'other pets' bit of NR :D

rogz beds are supposed to be quite hard wearing, not sure if they are totally indestructible though! vet bed is supposed to be pretty hard to shred so maybe a plastic bed with vet bed and some old blankets.

Lol! Think yourselves lucky, my Doberman had an 'argument' (a rather one sided one ;)) with a feather pillow she stole off my bed  That took about 4 weeks to clean up, I'm not joking! Its suprising where duck feathers can get to! I have a picture somewhere, will have to dig it out. Currently looking for a new bed for her too, so will look up some of these ones.

Hahaha, you can feel my pain, I'll be picking balls out of god knows where for months :p Thank goodness we love 'em.

We have already wrecked Vetbed (they are total wreckers and just see the bed as a play toy!). My two (naughty Staffies, especially the pup with her needle teeth) are unbeatable so far! Maybe they'll grow out of it!

I left them with a lovely big Kong today (cheese pasta, chicken liver pate and yoghurt with bannana - starters, main and dessert packed in tight and frozen) and we didn't have any wrecking antics. Maybe they just need a good Kong to keep them occupied before they start on their bed :p

There again they've shreded a shoe tonight just for the hell of it. I must be mad...two dogs under 18 months...they are just looking for fun :D

I must be mad...two dogs under 18 months...they are just looking for fun :DI often think the same! :D We've had complete madness here this evening - dogs bouncing off the furniture, climbing all over my OH and I and wrestling over a ruined pink octopus toy. It desperately needs to go in the bin, but it's "favourite" at the moment. You would honestly think that they don't have a box full of decent toys to play with

I'm sick to death of picking up bits of fluff out of the dogs' duvet (see my lurcher pics thread for a photo of a very sweet little boy with an expression of complete innocence, surrounded by the carnage  ), so I don't think I'll be doing that again. They have a large plastic bed in the back room, which is chewed but still useable, but we get through soft bedding like nobodies business. Mostly they had a few fleeces from pound shops and charity shops in it, but my Mum kindly donated the duvet. They've got a Kumfi Pet bed each on order for Christmas, having seen how good my friend's one is, so hopefully that will be an end to shredded beds!

I bought an indestructable tuffy for our Dobie, and she destroyed it by digging a hole in it, then removing all the inards!

She has a disgusting bit of vet bed at the moment, and takes great delight in chewing the wood panels off the walls in the porch, has chewed all the corners off the kitchen table, chewed the legs on the kitchen chairs and removed plaster as well - she is such a joy.

Funnily enough, she never tries to destroy her snuggly coat which she wears when it is cold - she loves that! :D

We have 2 collie puppies and have found the solution....washing baskets! Buy a plastic washing basket, stick something old and soft (eg bit of an old duvet) and let them enjoy. Ours have eaten the old wicker basket but are yet to chew this one.

Hooray!! It's not just me :) My girlies take great delight in nibbling the corners off most beds (and duvets on our bed) and pulling the fluff out! pretty clouds everywhere for me to pick up! the most recent bed I've bought them is from asda and is a scruffs expedition bed - much cheaper than on the internet. They've taken a wee corner off (well the staff has) but so far so good. They've also left dillons two beds from pets at home (they are like big rectangular pilows) which is kind of them lol, Im also experimenting with old duvets and duvet covers as they like them :)
