I need to buy my first pair of boots, and have decided on jodhpur boots. Does anyone have any recommendations? I quite like the mountain horse ones, either sport jodhpur 2000 or mountain rider, with the laces. Are these any good? Someone told me once that were too wide and chunky, the bottoms were too ridged etc. Is this true? What kind should I get? Many thanks:)

For a neat fit,Aigle's waxed leather ones are just wonderful. If you're doubling up as a yard boot, why not PM Wally on this site about the Blundstones she sells in her shop. They are also waxed leather, come in black or brown, with or without steel toe cap. They are also absolutely water tight, and come up fit for a king when you clean them. I live in them, and would buy another pair anyday. My husband has them too and wears them as 'dealer boots' when taking animals to market etc....etc.....They look smart, even if two hours earlier they looked like you'd had a grand time trying to catch twenty naughty ponies on a marshy boggy field.Love 'em!

dunno if this brand is sold where you live, but I have a pair of Ariat paddock boots (I've been wearing them for my whole riding career...3-4 years..wow:eek: ) and if you decide after you get the paddock boots you want tall ones, get half chaps. They're as good as tall boots.

I've got the Mountain rider boots, and I've never had a problem with the soles (too ridged for what?). I've only ridden with a couple of pairs of stirrups, but I don't think there's anything "larger than normal" about them - I certainly haven't had a problem getting my foot in the stirrups. They were my first pair of boots too. I did try the ariats, but they were too narrow for me - shame, as I noticed the chaps and that seemed neat. Then again, I can't see me needing tall boots for a few years yet, so I decided not to worry.

There's so many different types to choose from it's difficult to recomend one. Personally I tend to buy what fits, is comfortable and does what I need at the time.

Have fun!
:)

I've just bought the Mountain Rider boots and was worried like you that they would be too bulky, just had my first lesson in them today and there was plenty of room either side of the stirrups - my only concern is they are rubbing a bit and are quite stiff around the ankles but I'm sure they'll be O.K once their worn in! they're also really practical for working around the yard (and lovely and warm).

If your wearing Jodphur boots then I recomend you buy some chaps to go with them, its a lot more comfortable and if your horse does go to close to something and your leg gets caught then it won't hurt too much!

I've been seeing a lot of multiple posts recently, and I think it may have to do with the server stuttering due to high traffic load (it's also occasionally been sloooow).

I have the mountain rider jodhpur boots and I really like them. I have ridden lots of different horses since I got them and not once have they been too chunky. They also are meant to have a saftey feature where the pattern on the sole stops the stirrup iron slipping back so that you cannot get your foot trapped should you fall - I don't think they work 100 % though.
