How do they do it??

You have spent loads of time de tangling it - avoiding pulling any strands of mane out, thinking youv'e done a fab job then, in the morning when you arrive to see them they have managed to tangle up their mane AGAIN!!!

After reading a thread it got me thinking what do other Friesian/long mane owners use on their horses mane??

I must admit im a cheapy i use baby oil and fingers or a human de-tangling comb for wet hair (you know the one, it s a wide, wavy tooth comb. Its great on my hair!! Well obliously Vinnie has one and i have one, im bleathering now - sorry!) :p

I had thought about plaiting it but he needs it for extra warmth during winter. Whats your ideas?? :D

I assume it is long, therefore you could do a *I think what is called a* running plait.

The main still lies over the neck, but along the bottom of a mane a plait kind of brings it all together.

I will see if I can find an image for you.

ETA Like this, but for an adult friesian I would imagine it quite a bit longer therefore still keeping him warm. http://www.raspberryridge.com/runningbraid.jpg

hey....

know your feeling well !!!! we use mail & tail... and it makes the mane sliky smooth.. and they're SO easy to brush out!

I use either pig oil or ASSS bath oil in the final rinsing water when washing and spray ASSS dry oil spray on to the mane in between and mane keeps fairly tangle free and easy to brush.

yeah the running plait i do that and put a long neck light rug on her ..probably being soft as neighbour has a tb and doesnt rug so a friesian being rugged seems a bit daft but hey lol i remove it and do it again every 2nd day so it doesnt rubb or lose hair and become frizzy but leave it in summer as seems thicker ??

I do them plaits on cherub :)

Its like a french plait but only add hair on one side!
I add hair after every 3rd turn.

Sietske peski went on a rubbing frenzy and rubbed the lot out so now we have a bit of a dodgy out grown hogged look so dont have mane problems anymore but before we just use to leave her looking like a tramp and just wash condition and comb every so often :p

Non of my horses manes and tails are brushed regularly to be honest :o
