Hello, I just thought that I would share a story...
About 6 months ago I moved about 1000mi from my home. I guess I didn't realize how much it had affected me, until I wasn't as confident in my riding anymore. (info-I am leasing an 8yo TB mare who needs all your attention! :) ) Then one day I was having a lesson, and my instructor said that I needed to get more assertive w/Chloe (my mare). I told her that I had realized that I had become a lot more passive w/my riding since I had moved. Then she asked me if it was just with my riding, or w/everything. I thought about it, and said everything. She then told me that she thought, that it was because I had to leave all of my friends, my horses, and my trainer, and she thought that actually I was a little bit depressed. Then she waited a min. and asked me how I felt having said that. Interestingly enough, I felt 100x better already! She watched me for a while, and told me that she had just seen a drastic change in Chloe. At the beginning, she had been tuning me out, spooking, and rebelling. And now all I had to do was think of doing something and she would say "What?" "Is this what you were asking?" It was amazing. And it felt so good.
It is just another example of how sensitive horses are to our feelings. How they feel all of our fears, pain, confusion, and all the tears we do not cry.
Just a reminder of why we love the equine species so much! ~alison~*
