I never had ponies as a kid I went straight onto big TB type horses. I did Pony Club eventing but kind of missed out on the pony thing. Five years ago a 'friend' asked me to cover her Exmoor pony mare with my Lusitano stallion. The mare came, got in foal, had the foal, got in foal again and the 'friend anounced that she was geting divorced,She didn't want any of them and I could have them. I needed three more mouths to feed (12 more feet to trim etc) like I needed a hole in the head, but what could I do? I still have them all. The oldest is rising 5 and called Rincewind. We backed him last year and he is the most fun I have had on equine-back for years. Attached is a photo of him.My friend Cheryl is riding him as she is to photography what Herod was to childcare. His full brother Sonico is 4 this year and will have to start work.....and yes there is also little Urna aged 2yrs BUT NO MORE....DEFINATLY!!!! I have to find homes for them soon but its hard to let go. I have accumilated 13 horses altogether!!!

Wow, that's a lot of horses! My ponies get smaller as I get older too. I too did Pony Club although only until I was about 13, then I had a 13.3hh cob and now I have a 13.2(ish) New Forest (Rupert)who is half the size Storm was, in build if not height, oh and of course I have the Shetlands who make 9.3hh at a push!

Oh and Rincewind looks lovely...what is a Lusitano X Exmoor like (obviously I can see the picture) I mean what is the temperament like, I have never met that X before.

Esther,

It has to be said that it is a fairly unique cross. The most pure hotblood breed in the Lusitano and the most pure coldblood breed in the Exmoor. Neither breed have been 'tinkered with'.It has produced ponies which biologists would describe as F1 Hybrids....in technical horsey terms they should stricly be called Iberian Warmbloods. They are all registered as partbred Lusitanos. They are VERY bright and intellegent and want to work and learn. They are very quich learners. Rincewind learned half pass today. He hacks out on his own and although he sees draggons behind every bush he asks me if they are the dangerous kind and as long as I tell him that they are friendly dragons he is happy. He is a very jolly friendly inquisitive little person who I have a moral obligation to find a nice person to love him and appreciate him (and his brother and sister, heaven help me).

I don't know of anyone else who has crossed an Exmoor with a Lusitano...purhaps someone visiting this site may do?

Just thought of a way to get drummed out of the Brownies!..........

Wonder what a Luso/Icelandic X would be like?

I have heard of some Lipizzaner X Fjords, but I have never seen one.
