To me a weight carrier is a horse or pony with good bone and a back that's not too long. Really depends on horse and if crossed or not. Whether rider sits heavy or not plus weight of tack. Some lightweight riders ride heavy for example.

I think they are meant to be fairly good at carrying weight. They're muscular and powerful and I think they have about 8"-9" of quite dense bone.

They were used as war horses in the middle ages so must have been strong to carry the men equipped with armour and weapons.

if hes a good stamp of the breed then yes, generally they have fine legs, but are medium in there body weight, a lipi with good conformation will be short in the back, deep girthed, with a huge shoulder, wide chest, long but thick neck.. here is a piccy of mine.. im short, but im not a size 10! pluto was 15.2 im 5"1 (but have a weird habit of fitting horses of any size!)

in part i do agree with newforest about confomation, these days theres far to many badley breed lipis around, your seeing them being imported by people thinking they have a bargin, but in fact they end up with a very bad example of the breed.. ie very fine.. if your looking to buy, go to an established breeder, that is breeding true to the original lines.

Yes - was wondering about the breed in general - but in particular his weight carrying ability?! Thanks for very helpful PM.

I have dealt with a couple of Lipiz and found that they can have weakness problems in their backs so I wouldn't call them a weight carrier as such but it depends on how much weight you are talking about. Don't forget it isn't just about weight, you also need to consider riding experience, rider balance, the way the rider carries themself etc
