Bad eyes?

I brought my pony in last night and he had a blood shot eye and it was running. He did have a bit of a runny nose as well and one of the other horses in the same field has it too.
What could it be and how could i treat it. Should i call the vet?

Sounds like he has got something in it! If you think about what happens when you get something in your eye, your nose runs too!

There is a lot of pollen around and if your horse is grazing in a field with lots of different grasses,buttercups or other plants, he may have got something in his eye or scratched it. My horse keeps getting bits of buttercup in his eyes - I tend to just wash his eyes when I bring him in with a little warm water and cotton wool or clean sponge around the edges.

Keep an eye on it (sorry, no pun intended!) - obviously if its no better in a couple of days, have the vet check it out.

Don't mess about where eyes are concerned, get the vet if it it bad.

I'm in total accord with Wally on this one. Definitely call your vet for advice as to whether they need to come and out and have a look.
