So I thought now we are in the last few days of 2008 it would be nice to have a thread to pay tribute to those special friends we have had to say good bye to in 2008 whether that be equine, canine, feline, people anybody who was special to you........
To my precious Vinny monster, you were such a special boy, you taught me so much and took hold of my heart the second I saw you. It was my Dad's birthday this month, he passed many years ago but this year I really needed him. He was the one person who truely made me feel loved. I wear his wedding ring next to my heart every day so I know he's close. I miss you more than you can believe.
Vinny I only met you once but like Vic86 you stole my heart at first sight :o
And to my work friend who died just a few days ago. You always understood when I was having a bad day and you were like the sympathetic aunty I never had. I hope you felt nothing and you're now looking down on us all :) I miss your singsong voice.

My great nan. You were 106 and lived a good long life. You never forgot anyones birthdays even at that age. You managed happily to live in your own horse until you were 104 and then you only moved to a home as the social side was better.
You lost so many people close to you in your last years (very old friends). But you never let anything get you down.
You supported my love for horses, you will be forever missed. A great woman who lived to a wonderful age and had 4 children, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
RIP xx

to Loki the most beautiful gentle loving little pony I have ever met. We had almost 3 perfect years together and not a day goes by when I don't think about you. I would give up all the other horses just to have you back again and healthy and to hear your little whinny which greeted me everytime you saw me. You were so perfect in every single way that you were obviously made to be an angel. At least you are no longer in pain. The day you left was the hardest day of my life and one I will never forget. We had so many good times together and I could always rely on you to make me smile. I know you are up there watching over me and your friends and now you are able to run and play with the other NR horses on Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my perfect little man. You can never be replaced but your friends will keep me going. Miss you love you. Sweet dreams my grey angel.

Plus the badger hit by a car just in front of us yesterday- we stopped but nothing could be done.

To my beautiful, gorgeous, beloved boy, Mr T, who was taken from me on 14 December. You were my friend, my confidante, my everything and although our time together was too brief, it was an honour and a privilege to have a horse as special as you touch my life.
Run free at the Rainbow Bridge my darling one, until I come for you and then we shall share all the adventures that we were denied. Until that day, know that I love you and I miss you.

In September I lost my uncle Gordon to mesothelioma (asbestos related cancer) aged 59. He has left behind his wife - his childhood sweetheart who had been together since they were teenagers, as well as two children aged 20 and 22 who have many happy memories of the last 9 months of his life after his terminal diagnosis.
I also lost my cousin once removed - Robert in his mid fifties, who lost his very long battle with multiple sclerosis after years of care from his dedicated wife who gave up work to look after him when he could no longer do things for himself.
During the summer, one of my friends, Ben, fell 45ft from a balcony, breaking almost every bone in his body and suffering massive pressure on his brain. He fell into a coma and later died of his injuries age just 18. He left behind his heartbroken parents and his two younger sisters.
Billy, my sister's Shetland who has been with us over 10 years closed his eyes for the last time a few months ago, so that he never had to be in pain from laminitis again.

I'm also remembering at this time of year - Fire and Commodore, two horses we lost tragically to an arson attack December 2005, and our second Christmas without Grandma.
RIP

My lovely little pug Lolly, who i came home to find had accidently suffocated on a crisp packet she got hold of (that someone who was staying with us at the time had left in their overnight bag). She was always into everything. She was my baby that followed me everywhere.. mischievous to the end xx

Goodbye my darling Shanzee, who collapsed and died on 16th November 2008 out on a walk. She will always have a special place in my heart. She came to me 12 years ago to the day (age unknown) from the dogs home, where she ended up after being thrown out of a car. She was the best friend I have ever known, and is very sadly missed every day. Run free my darling.

Also her 'big sister' Abby, PTS 17th November 2008 aged 15, as she was missing Shanzee too much. She came to live with me in 1996 after being found in a skip, beaten up and left for dead.

And also Tojo (Mr T.), PTS 8th September 2008 aged 20, who had 3 lovely years with us in his retirement.

I would like to remember my Auntie Glenis who died in February 2008, my Uncle Ray who died in August 2008 and a very special horse who died yesterday. Its been a hard year for me and all the deaths have been difficult to deal with. It is very comforting to read other peoples stories on NR. I guess that the problem with loving people and animals is that it's so painful when they leave us.
