Drove Rhi again yesterday

I drove Rhi again yesterday just around the yard and I am sure she must have been used once for driving. She has always been tied up when I have hooked the cart on as she (or so assumed) had just been learning and therefore I would not expect her to stand. On Tuesday/Wednesday when Katherine and I took her out Katherine held her in the middle of the yard whilst I hooked the cart on but yesterday I decided to try her and see what she did without anyone holding her. She stood there very patiently whilst I hooked the cart on. I praised her to bits. Then I got on the cart with another girl on the yard Carol (some of you have met her) and off we went round the back yard and down to the field. Now I know there is plenty of room to turn the cart but she seemed to be rushing things when I asked her to turn and so I asked her to back up and she did :D It was like she knew what she was doing. All I need now is to get the practice in :p

Sounds great fun. How far can you go in your cart? Can you take the cart & Rhi and go places? (It's more-or-less simple to transport a horse, but a horse & cart?) Hooray for Rhi, what a good girl.

she certainly knows whats asked of her! Iworked with driving horses/ponies and however naughty they all were they always stood still when being harnessed up and put to the trap. We did national BHDTA events which were brilliant fun!!

Good luck with her... I miss driving was a great and relaxing way of getting about ...of course except for the time we met the dustbin men with a team of VERY fit and full of it ponies!! arghhh

When we bought Fat Cb, there were rumours that he was half of a pair, is name is Laurel and his pair was supposed to have been Hardy. I take things like this with a pinch of salt so we started him in harness again slowly from the beginning.

It soon became obvious that he knew exactly what he was doing, and clear he had been driven before.

Rhi sounds as if she likes her driving. When they enjoy it they often work things out for themselves without having to be taught. I like horses like that, ones who are game to try things and not have the screaming abdabs when asked to try something new.

Pants is a perfect gent to put to and harness up. He'd stand there all day with his trolley behind him, without even being tied up......so why isn't he as nice under saddle?.....little tyke!

I hope to be able to take Rhi out and about but as you say transport is the problem. However we do luckily have some great places to drive around. For now she is just going around the block.

I know what you mean it is so irritatng that I know just how good she can be. She has thrown a couple of wobblers these last few days. As she has done a lot with the cart recently I decided that I would tack her up again. My eldest decided he wanted to ride her to his friends she was good as gold until his friend got on her then she just threw a wobbler (she is normally so good with novices). She just would not stand still. Then yesterday I harnessed her up and took her into the paddock with Phil. I normally have a problem going through gates but managed this one rather well. However whilst I wanted to wait for Phil to close the gate behind us she wanted to carry on going and just decided to do a minature (sp) rear :rolleyes: My reaction was to say 'Just what do you think you are doing'. Had I been on her back I would have probably got off rather quickly :( Before taking her down to the paddock I had my friends little boy (only 1yr old) sitting on the back with his dad holding him and she just stood there. After finishing in the paddock a friends little girl wanted a go so off we went down towards the field and back up the bank at which Rhi just decided she was going to trot. Abby however just loved every minute of it.
