I'm so sad. Leon our beautiful arab was pts yesterday after much soul searching. He suffered a terrible injury in June last year which was operated on. He was given six months to recover and seemed to be doing really well to the point where he could be ridden again. And then suddenly went dog lame again. Vet said the end had come for him and he was in pain but bloody hell we'll miss him.

yes.He had a cold the week before but then started to become unsteady on his feet and collapsing all over the place. The vets apparantly did everything they could but there was no option but to put his to sleep as he wasn't even able to recognise anyone at the end.

Thanks for all your messages - it really helps to hear from other horse owners/lovers. I don't think the "normal" population really understand what we go through when a horse dies.

Leon was only with me and my daughter for just under a year and during this time he was only healthy and rideable for about 2 months. He had a virus (which many others on the yard did) but really struggled to get over it. Shortly after this he got the injury (in the field)which eventually lead to him being pts. I think because we went through so much with him it made us love him more. He was a really beautiful gentle animal (who remained convinced to the end that his grooming kit bag was a horse eating monster!) and it was a privelage to have won his trust.

I am so sorry to read about Leon. I can only express my heartfelt regret to you and your daughter- words can not convey the sorrow I feel for having lost such a wonderful horse.

I'm so sorry to hear about Leon being put to sleep.
My thoughts are with you :)
Funnily enough, when you had him up for sale, around about the time that he had the first injury, I rang up about him and wanted to come see him but he wasn't well enough.
We have found another horsie now, a chestnut too!
Hope things all turned out okay for you, what an awful loss. He seemed such a lovely horse.

RIP Leon xxx

How awful for you, really brings it home that it will happen to nearly all horse owners at sometime or another, but i doubt you can ever really prepare yourself for it. Keep hold of the happy memories x

Thanks for all your lovely sentiments

I know we all think our horse is the most special but he really was a beautiful gentle animal. We're getting through it (my daughter and I) but its hard. I'm very weepy at the moment.

Candypony - I think he was meant to be with us! More or less as soon as we thought of selling him that's when things started to go wrong. Glad you found a nice horse. It's my daughter who's mad on chestnuts! Must admit there's something about them that's stunning though.
