Hamsters help!

Blurry things. First they do escaping, they like escaping. So I buy new tank instead of a cage (expensive or what!). Then they got wedged under their wheel so had to buy a new one. Now I have two ickle problems...

1) They keep defecating in their bed, skanky animals! They have a litter tray where I've put some of their soiled stuff in it, which normally worked with the Siberians I had. I always thought hamsters were pretty clean :rolleyes:

2) I cleaned them out today, and they had an almighty tantrum that all their food they threw on the floor was gone, raced about for about an hour and now are refusing to sleep in their (new, clean) bedding, when before they were happy? :confused:

Anyone have any ideas? They are two female roborovski hamsters, about 12 months old now I imagine.

Hamsters.. after owning most every small pet they were the ones I would not have again. Had Russian and the Syrian varieties.
They chose their toilet place etc and changes are bad news. Would say a tank not a good move - they are fine for gerbils and jirds but hamsters do not bury so not for them. You are right - Houdini wouldnever match a hammy- ours rehomed under the bath!
Rats are much better as pets!
