Going to have to get this cleared up.

How does the Non HGV and HGV classed lorries affect license requirments .

I occasionally see on adverts for Non HGV - no HGV license required, so does that mean you need a LGV iences?

You can drive a non-HGV on a normal car licence but you need to pass a separate test to drive a HGV. I think I'm right in saying that 7.5tonne lorries can be HGV but 3.5tonne are not.

I have seen a couple of 7.5T (or 7t )that are classed as nonHGV.) Thought it was a miss print but have seen a few now.

I've seen that too - I think you must be able to get 7.5tonne non-HGVs. I've googled this and the closest I can come to an explanation is this:
An HGV is classified as a Heavy Goods Vehicle and can be any vehicle used for the transportation of goods and heavy duty equipment from one place to another. Indeed an HGV can also be used to transport goods and equipment to and from the continent.
An HGV can also be classed as a rigid or articulated vehicle - one of a certain length that needs special skills to both drive and manoeuvre
So, if the vehicle is a goods vehicle which weights more than 3500kg (or 3.5tonne) it is a LGV (the new name for HGV) - but if it is rigid or of a certain length it is also a LGV so I can only assume that some 7.5tonne lorries are not classified as LGVs because they are not varrying goods or equipment and are under a certain length?

my lorry is a 7.5t non HGV

Younger people will need a seperate test to drive them even though it's non HGV. I need to do my test yet, my poor dad has to drive mine everywhere at the moment!!

Depends how old you are and when you passed your test. I can drive a 7.5 tonner or a car with trailer without having to go through an HGV test, if you passed ON or AFTER 1997 you are only able to drive up to 3.5 tons and would need to take a separate test to drive either a 7.5t lorry or car and trailer. I am able to drive a minibus with up to 16 passengers too. Or a minibus with trailer. Sometimes it's rather splendid being old.

Yep 7.5 tonnes & less is non-HGV. If you had to do a theory test when you took your driving test you won't be able to drive any more than a 3.5 tonner on your standard license & will need to take another test to drive a 7.5 tonner. If you are old like me and pre-date the time when theory tests came in you have 'grandfather rights' and can drive up to a 7.5 tonner on a standard license, which is bonkers but there you go! Anyone driving a wagon that is plated to have a gross weight of more than 7.5 tonnes, no matter how heavy it is in practice, will need an HGV license. You can get heavier wagons de-rated to 7.5 tonnes but it needs to be on the plating cert as far as I know.

Correct.

If you need to take a test to drive a 7.5 t, (I think it is called a C1) then we have been told that it is better to do the full HGV rigid (C )test.

Like many 3.5 ton lorries there are question marKs over the load carrying ability of some 7.5t, especially those with luxury living that claim to take 3/4 horses.

HGVs (over 7.5t) are still cheaper as us oldies still have to do an extra test for them!!

hi there

7.5 tonne is no hgv but you do need a seperate licence/test if u did not pass your test before 1998, if u passed before then you will be fine.

hgv is 7.5 tonne and heavier, and you need a c+e test for that or a class 1, or cclass 2

anymore help just ask!!
