about travelling!

Okay I have an assessment about travelling horses and all the legislation, but I just cant get my head around it.

Who can drive a horse box and what weights? if you passed your test before '97 can you drive a 7.5 horse box without any other training? if someone passed after '97 (or w/e year it is) what do they need to: tow a trailer? drive a horse box (3.5 ton, 7.5 ton)? what is HGV? ah...

what do you need to tow a trailer?

wtf are laden and unladen weights? laws? HELP?

also what is that circular thing in a lorry than you take out and it's....marked to show how far you've gone or the speed or something? like a disk thing on the dash board? :o

Basically PLEASE tell me everything there's to know about laws behind transporting horses... in the simplest way possible and I'll be eternally grateful :o

It is all very simple if you invest in the appropriate and current government publications which spell out the exact rules by which you must abide, including tachograph legislation and animal welfare-in-transit rules, regulations and recommendations which apply to different situations inc. private transport for leisure purposes, export, hire-for-reward etc.

That way you will get to know 'everything'. Even so, legislation is apt to be in a constant state of change and you need to be aware of this.

If you search the VOSA & DVLA websites you should get all the info you need, along with references to the legislation. If you cite that in your assignment you should get some brownie points - it shows that you've understood the legal framework that underlies the system ;) Horse & Hound website is also good because it sometimes links to more official sites. You need to make sure you've researched this properly, people like me sometimes talk a load of old rubbish
