Hi I'm after speaking to someone who is familiar with hacking round Tameside and in particular round Godley reseviour - is it worth a ride round etc

Thanks :)

I am in Tameside, if you want info I can provide you with some rides that i do around stalybridge country park upto Mottram and accross to Uppermill.

Where are you based?

I am new to the area myself and found that the OS map plus pennine bridleway website were an invaluable starting point. There is also an excellant book called something like rides around Saddleworth, it has a yellow cover and is avialable from tameside librarys, Horse hound and rider in Dukenfiled and A&J Horse feeds in Mossley.

I am! Definitely worth a ride round the reservoir, its absolutely lovely though I've not been for a few years :). There are some fantastic moorland rides around Stalybridge as well - have you been out to the country park there? You can get onto the Moors behind Stalybridge and go for miles past the reservoirs. Its a bit of a trek for me, but I went with my sister last year and it was absolutely amazing.

ooh I might try the reseviour this weekend then, I haven't tried stylebridge country park but do Werneth Low all the time to the point it's now boring! I'm looking for new routes to explore, my mare is pretty good in traffic so I'm lucky on that point and hopefully will have a friend with transport come spring so we will be able to trailer off to places.

I've just measured the distance from my yard to staylebridge CP and it's nearly 8-miles there!! So think it will have to be something that waits for the trailer

Ooh do you have a trailer? Because if you do I can suggest a fantastic ride for you. You'd probably need dropping off and collecting though but it is an absolute gem of a ride. Honestly you can go for two to three hours without a road insight, over the moors and past the reservoirs. Its really fantastic!
