My rat Donald died on Thursday night last week, I went to feed them in the evening and found him curled up dead :( His cagemate Dexter misses him as theyve never been apart before, but he has cheered up in the last couple of days.

I've had him 2 and a half years, and he's kept me company at uni & moved house with me a few times, so he was a very well travelled rat! He loved to groom us and snuggle on the sofa :)

RIP Donald, we miss you lots & lots.

Aww, bless you. It's horrible when you lose a pet, no matter how big or small.. hope his little cagemate is ok, will you get him another friend?

so sorry to hear of your sad loss. The same happened to me - I got 2 ratty boys together and one day my OH came in and found Jasper just curled up. He was about 3 years old.
His chum William was ok but exactly the same happened with him about 6 months later.
SOOO sad especially with little creatures, you know they aren't going to be around that long but they are so lovely to have around.

Hope you feel better soon. It's true, all it takes is time although you never forget them.

Ahhh. RIP Donald.:(

I had ratties! I brought them with me from the UK to Hungary - they were very well travelled too! :) Both now sadly gone... :(

Rats are great pets. I hope your other rat Dexter is OK. Mine died really close together.

Thanks :) I'm so glad I had him, they may only be small but they were my friends and I got really attached to them. Even my OH had teary eyes when we found him and I've never seen him cry before.

I dont think I'd get Dexter a new friend as he's getting old too now and he seems to be aging very quickly since Donald died :( His back legs are starting to seize up (the vet said due to spinal degeneration) and I don't think he's going to be around for too much longer :( Am spoiling him lots at the moment though :)

Tragic. Rats are so great. Our rats tended to die in pairs as well. I guess it was age and grief but no more than a few weeks separated the two pairs I had as a child.
