Well I know I have already posted one sad story but unfortunately this is another.
My brother is a plant operator and drives a digger, he decided he would like a little dog to take to work with him and keep him company all day.
He hunted through the papers and phoned the local kennels and on 30th December 2005 the lady from the local kennels phoned and old him she had a Parsons Terrier called Jago that needed to be rehomed due to the family not having enough time for him and was my brother interested - needless to say me and my brother both jumped in the car and went to meet the dog - he came out of the kennel block bounded straight over into my brothers arms - it was well and truely love at first sight.
Due to the kennels being local and knowing our family well we were able to take him home there and then.
My brother soon decided he didnt like his name and changed it to Rodge which suited him alot better and he seemed happier with it. We got him home and bathed him as he smelt of kennels and he had soon settled in.
He had such an amazing character - he would sit at the top of the stairs with his ball in his mouth and drop it down over them - chase it bring it back up and do it again.
Needless to say Rodge and my brother were glued to each other they loved each other so much - Rodge would go to work all day with my bro then jump in the car at night and come home.
One day as they were travelling home Rodge asked to be let out to go to the toilet - they were on a quiet piece of road so my brother jumped out the car and let the dog out next to him - Rodge quite happily sniffed around and did a wee but for some reason decided something on the other side of the road took his fancy and ran across - there was a car coming the other way which had seen what happened and slowed down and stopped - my brother called and called to Rodge who started to come back but as he did the car driver put his foot down and ran him over.
The car driver carried on and didnt stop - my brother ran out and scooped his little dog up and carried him to the car -he was still alive.
He took him to emergency vets who said that they could probably help him but it would cost thousands and he would have to loose his back legs - my brother decided that the kindest thing was to have him put down - he couldnt bare to imagine his poor boy not being able to jump into his arms for a cuddle.
My brother was devastated as you can imagine - he didnt eat, sleep speak to anyone for days after and just kept saying "why didnt i just put his lead on?"
It has brought tears to my eyes writing this today as I can still see the pain on my brothers face when he got home that night and hear him crying that evening when trying to sleep.
RIP Rodge :(
You were only with us 30 days but you touched our lives in ways we can never forget.
You will never be forgotten!
