How many of you out there have ever really thought about the credit you have given to your horse? Have you ever wondered how much credit is too much?

I just came back from a horrible lesson with my green three-year-old gelding Justin. He's the light of my world, but he's turned ultimately barn sour. Sure, he tries his hardest to impress and he really tries, I give him that. But when my insturctor put my semi-friend up on him and she complained the whole time while straightening him out, and he rode better for her than he ever did for me, it hit me... How much credit have I given Justin for my accomplishments? ALL. I've never saved anything for myself.

What do you give your horse credit for, but what do you save for yourself? It's time I start to realize that sometimes, how Justin performs is up to me, not him. I deserve that much...

How about you?

yes, it is true that it seems some pple tend to give their horses too much credit.

well, a horrible lesson can really ruin the whole week. i bet u are very discouraged.

the thing is, Laya, we need to have an equal balance on both sides. both the horse and u need to be praised and recognised for your own efforts. riding is all about partnership. it really doesn't matter who deserves all the credit. when u have a good lesson, both u and your horse have done an excellent job! because there is a form of communication, of partnership, of mutual trust, respect and love. u both worked hard for it, u both deserve the credit!

we all have our bad days... hope that your next lesson will be a smooth ride!
