spooking

My horse spooks at a lot. He gets scared of his own shadow. He sometimes just spooks for the heck of it. He doesn't go anywhere but it can be upsetting. What would be the best way for me to help him relax and stay on task? I think he is just doing this so he can get out of working. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is your horse young?
How long have you had him?
When he does spook what do you do?
Horses will test their owners especially if they feel your nervous and if they get away with anything they will continue to act up and the problem will just get worse.
When he spooks talk to him to reassure him incase he really is scared. You could even get off and walk up to it and touch it yourself to show the horse there is nothing to be afraid of.
If you can explain a little more about the horse and what happens and what it is he is doing i will try to help you more.
