I learnt to ride at a school near Denton/Gorton in the 1970's. I rode a small pony called silver who I believed lived into his late 20's, a pony called Ginger who was a red roan with a blue wall eye and a see through chestnut eye and a very smart little bay called Dandy who used to bolt! They had a nice sand arena and I have a memory of going into a dutch type barn once with horses bedded on sand. Now I am back in Manchester I would love to visit it if the place is still there. Any problem is my Mum denies my ever riding when we lived in Gorton so shes no help! Im not hulicinating the place as my first employer (saturday job) was a news agent whose daughter also learnt to ride there.Does anyone remember it?

the only place that rings a bell to me in that area is mike crooks place. its either called "denton hall farm" or "hyde hall farm". from manchester rd in denton turn onto city lane then onto town lane and continue until it changes to ross lave lane. i know it used to be a riding school years ago but it was sold and has been a livery yard for as long as ive know it (which is probably about 15yrs).

oooh!! ive just thought of another one!! turn of manchester rd onto hulme rd. go past the windmill pub and carvery (if you get chance call in coz their carvery is the best ive ever had). when you reach the end of the rd there is a unmade rd directly opposite. go down there (its only a few feet) and the gates are set slightly to the left as the track continues ahead. im sure that used to be a riding school but yet again i know it hasnt been for years as i had my horse on there about 10yrs ago. it rang a bell as they have a really big all weather floodlit menage.

Hi
I am also trying to think back to the 1970's but about a different Riding School in Reddish. I used to go there before and after school and in the holidays to do stable jobs in return for Riding lesson.
It's funny what our memory tells us and what we remember. I just keep thinking about this palamino horse that I always hankered for even though now my favourite colours are bay and chestnut.
Anyway enough of my ramblings, I hope you find out more about your school in Denton.
Oh and by the way your horse is really cute and the area where you live/ride looks lovely.
:)

Hi
I know this is an old post but I stumbled across it off google.
The yard is Jack Hicklins - I rode their in the school from age 4 and then went on livery with my own horses and left when I was 27. It is still there, no longer a riding school only livery. My mum lives backing onto the fields still. It is right at the end of Hulme Road in Dane Bank Denton.
My sister would only ride Silver and yes he did live well into his twenties. Ginger was sold to my friend who owned him well into his twenties. Dandy made it to 36 and was owned by my friend Joanne after the school closed.
