cleaning and reproofing rugs on the Cheap

who cleans and reproofs there own rugs?

this summer i am going to try and do my own as i really cant afford £18 each rug for a rug to be cleaned and reproofed

i am thinking of using the nikwax products i use on my waterproofs? what do people use? also power washer good or bad idea

any comments grateful

waterproof trousers or old bits of rug for patches,
and through the wash with some rug reproofer,,

but that only works if you have little rugs or a big machine :)

unfortuatly my rugs are 7ft :( boo so i would have to wash them by hand and paint or spray reproofer on,
