Just wondering if this could or does work out.

I may have found a possible horsebox but justifying the total cost is a bit tricky at the moment.:o

I don't exactly share ownership, but I go halves on the overall cost of a box owned by another girl. It can work very well, and keeps costs down, but we have found that there are several weeks over the winter when neither of us need it, and then through the summer, there are sometimes clashes with dates. I do showing and Lucy does eventing, so inevitably there are some days when there are events on that both of us want to do. We both have have to compromise sometimes - If I have a HOYS qualifier, Lucy will get a lift with a friend, or if Lucy has a BE affiliated event, I will either find an alternative date or transport. Ultimately it is Lucy's horsebox, and if there is a day that she wants to use it, i respect that.

So far it has worked out OK this will be our 4th year of sharing.

I think the trouble is with that is that you need to find someone who will remain constant in your life rather than drifting away as so many do.

The other problem is fonding soeone who will want to use it at different time to you so there is no conflict or else someone that you are really tight with so you do everything together.

I have to admit that having a horsebox is my dream too but I'm not convinced that anyone in my area would be suitable or saintly enough to put up with me! :p

Share a trailer....to be more specific, a friend owns it and I maintain it...pay for services etc. She does not use it much at present so I get to use it when I like...when she does go somewhere, it is unusual with us anyway, so works well.....howver, this is probably an unusual situation.

Well, I could imagine my neighbour sharing it in terms of usage. They would probably use it more than me but that wouldn't worry me. I just want it for now and again for local stuff and I could imagine buying a sharer out if they were to move away or loose interest....but you are right, you need the right person..

and I'm sure I could put up with you:p

That sounds good. I really want to do a few dressage tests and fun rides and maybe a few clinics (learning stuff) so I'd need someone with similar interests. I'm not into heavy competing.

For clinics and fun rides, it would be great to have someone doing the same things as it would save on diesel and you could share driving. Competition days can be more difficult if your classes are always at the opposite end of the day - it could get hard work. Our arrangement seems to work well becuase we do totally different things.

A girl at my yard shares her horsebox with other people and it seems to work out quite well. They go to jumping clinics/competitions together and everybody is winning. She gets a bit of money towards the cost of the lorry and she is with like-minded people!

I would like to do something like that as well unfortunately I am not really into jumping more like you fun rides, bit of dressage, fun stuff really, I am hopelessly non competitive.

If you find the right person and you draw a contract to avoid any problems I am sure it is worth it... shame you are not in Surrey!

I share one (although it is currently for sale).

I know of quite a few people who share on my yard - as long as you know your co-owner pretty well and can trust them I don't see any reason not to.
