Thanks everyone. My YO found him this morning but asked me to come and identify him as I know all his markings (because he used to follow me and Forest around) so I would know for definate if it was him.
I was hoping it was another cat and not Tom, I wish I hadn't seen him like that. :(

Thanks everyone. The place really isn't the same without him. We are so used to him always being there mieowing at us, and tripping us over. It just seems so quiet without him :(
We're hoping to get some rescue cats, maybe the RSPCA will have some feral cats that would prefer to live on a farm.

I'm fairly sure that the Cats Protection charity is always looking for 'farm homes' for their ferals. If I could, I'd stick some of our local 'ferals' in a jiffy bag and send them to you!;) There are LOADS round here. Sadly, they too are often hit by cars. It's so sad.

Thats the problem we think we might encounter. Our yard is on a road, which is busy at rush hour, but other then that is fine.
We had Tom for over 6 months and this was the second time he crossed the road :(
When he arrived, he was feral, we couldn't get near him, although his brother was friendly. After his brother went missing Tom became very friendly so we are hoping that we can offer I nice home to a feral cat.
We don't want to domesticate them, but we like having less rats around. ;)
We don't want to replace Tom, as noone will ever be the same as him. You could do whatever you wanted with that cat and he would just purr, and he had webbed feet.
But we would still love to offer another home to a cat that can't live in a house and would rather be on a farm :)
