does it spoil it for you? We have a girl on our yard who sends me insane and I really don't want to spend my leisure time out with her.

It all depends where you ride. If you are generally going single file then you don't get a chance to chat much so it might not matter. Or, if you are going on a fast hack you generally don't get to talk either. I think you have to make an effort to be nice to everyone on the yard and keep a good atmostphere. You want to make everyone feel included otherwise cliques start to form and you never know when you might need a hand from her. I would say that perhaps you could ride out with her every so often but tell her that you like doing different things so you don't want to make it a regular thing. Hopefully she will make her own group of friends.

Aarrrrrrrrgh, dont do it. Phrase, "cruel to be kind" comes to mind here. In a situation where you can choose your companions, should never feel you HAVE to put up with anyone.

Tell her, but nicely. I told a mate yesterday cos it was my first ever road hack with the boy: I only wanted another mate and her bombproof cob and no-one else.

As you say, it's your leisure time, which you should be enjoying, so be a teeny bit selfish and make it clear without upsetting the girl.

I tend to ride out on Saturdays about 7.30 and sundays about 8.30 a legacy of always having to get of the yards in Birmingham early to avoid traffic build up. Here on the pennine bridleway I have no traffic problems but after a busy week its bliss to ride out with neddie on my own. I sugest choosing your times so you dont have to ride with some one who annoys you but dont also end up creating a bad atmosphere at your yard.

People I know are very aware that I love hacking out solo with Joy. She better behaved when it's just the 2 of us too.

This way I have the get out clause of needing time alone with her and not offending anyone.

I don't hack out in company much, but when I do, I am selective about who I go with due to Doey generally getting overexcited. Another excitable horse would just make things much worse!

I use the excuse that Kane needs practice to hack alone so don't have to go with people I'm not keen on. (I don't tell them that he's near perfect now ;))

At my yard it's not that I don't like the people, it's certain riders don't like to have a mad canter or even trot and I get bored. Kane's isn't the worlds fastest and I'm certainly not the worlds bravest but we do like to take advantage of a grass verge or the open fields we can hack through. I love going with the younger kids cos they encourage me to do silly things, I'm aways scared but I enjoy it anyway!!!
