I've been ridding for 18 years now, i've never had a single profesional leson in the whole time.

But.. after my fall on the weekend(see thread in Cafe Section) i've been thinking would i have stayed on if i had be taught how to jump?

I'm thinking that maybe a few lesons wouldn't go astray. But i'm not sure if i can handle someone teaching me the basics again. My riding style is somewhat unique, I've be taught by a range of people, from jockeys to the farrier across from my Pop's farm, and due to that my style is a combination bit from each. Jumping is really the only think no-one was able to teach me.
Any opinios would be great.
Thanks in advance
Belinda

If you mean is it shameful to feel you have to be taught the basics at your stage, then no, it isn't. Funnily enough it's the basics that we don't ever seem to be taught properly! How to use our aids, how to ride a b----y circle correctly - you'd think that would be the easy stuff to teach, but it isn't! I really admire people who know exactly what to do with their inside reins and their outside legs and how to balance their noses etc. on circles

You could book just one lesson for an evaluation. Have a straight talk with the instructor about your goals and whether or not he or she can realistically address them. It's really the only way to find out.
