i can thankfully say (for my bank balance anyway) that im very glad in this econmic climate that i have a do gooder!
i still have full bins of food (i think i last purchased some in dec) only brought 40 bales of straw and hay for entire winter all together and still have some left... and lasted the winter alternating between 2 rugs... which means only one is now tatty  woo
anyone else a little relived... i wouldnt begrudge spending more money but i got to socialise this winter which is kinda novel!!

Oh yes! Especially when other members say how much they feed and the supplements they give (about 10 scoops in all) and I'm there giving my pony a handful of chaff and pony nuts:o.

Sorry but this made me giggle! I have visions of a horse going around righting social wrongs, being a busy body. Did you mean good doer?:D

Very happy indeed! Having a lame pony, it helps to chuck her out in the field, let her winter coat get thick and fluffy and supplement with just a bit of hay and some pony nuts. Very economical.
Paying for it now with half an hour a day of trying to get her winter coat out. Hair is coming out in handfuls!!
Also, 'do gooder' made me laugh, but thought I knew what you meant..!

Very relieved. One expensive supplement, but otherwise lovely cheap winter, no rug repairs (as out without one), althugh I'm getting fed up of getting covered in horse hair when grooming

Very relieved! One good supplement and thats it!
I always feel sorry when I read about people with laminitics horses and the constant battle they have keeping them well.

Me too!
One bag of chaff and one of grass nuts have lasted me the winter with some to spare.
Probably bought a bit more hay but that is better for them and generally (though not in all areas) a lot cheaper. I am very thankful that I can get really sweet hay for £2.50 a bale.

Very glad. I have only used about 8 hay bales all winter. I brought a bag of safe n sound and have over half of it left still, which will probably see me through to next winter the rate I use it.
That is one do gooder I would say.:p:p:D Hehe we know what you mean.

Yes and no! I have a mare here that I am watching like a hawk as she got Lammi last year. Not a mouthful of food from a bucket has passed her lips, they got haylage for 4 days when it snowed........they are like little fat pigs.
Charlot is the only one who has had the decency to lose a bit of weight and be allowed carte blanche for grass this spring.

not when it means my enjoyment of our ponies arrivals will be overshadowed by being on constant lammi alert from there on in. I've put all my sheep in the field where the ponies will be going & set them to keep up with flushes until ponies arrive in june, then ill prob leave some of them in with the ponies & see how it goes.

I was glad over winter as I saved loads of grass and only needed a balancer for vits and mins, no additional hay and no extra feed for calories.
Now I'm starting to curse them being good doers as they need wtachin in the growing season as their weight piles on quickly given the chance.
I'm never happy! :p

Mine is a good doer too, only fed hay in winter he doesn't need any hard feed. He winters out well, just have to watch he doesnt put on too much weight with the spring grass coming through.

I have one good doer, but decided to keep her living out with my Arab X for the first time for both. As a result, my Arab was less stressed, couldnt weave, and KEPT weight ON. I'm a very happy owner, who fed all Winter on handful chaff, sprinkle of hi fibre mix and a good quality supplement. Good quality hay has also made a huge difference, as huge amounts dint have to be fed to keep them content.

I have a TB and he munched his way through less food than some of the field kept nativy ponies this winter.
He only got 2 scoops of healthy hoof a day but looked great on it. Other similar horses at our yard must cost a fortune the amount they were being fed!
I feed ad-lib hay and he dosent eat that much, i think he knows its always there so dosen't just scoff it. He's a VERY cheap to keep TB! oh and NO rug repairs since in had him in 18 months (touch wood!)

I have a good do-er TB too .. and a muzzled Shetland (says it all about him )
Stan hasn't had hard feed or haylage at all since the middle of March. He lives out.. and he's been kept in the "skinny" field at mo as he's so porky!
He looked like this 3 weeks ago but has put on weight since then again
