Hi all who reads! :)
Well, I've had a hectic ol' week with all the summer polo ponies coming back into work for the season, but i have pulled my finger out and been able to sort out my routine to fit in some time out competing with the Iggy Pop.
We went to Summerhouse jumping centre last Tues morning for the British Novice and i was chuffed to bits with her. :) It's quite spooky down there with lots of elaborately coloured jumps, fillers, flowers, banners and flags, and i knew she would take some riding into these new fences. However, she jump fantastically and where alot of competitors were not getting through to the J.O phase, she flew round clear. We did however have a blunder at probably one of the most straight forward fences on the course (and no, it wasn't because i got complacent over it!) in the J.O, something spooked her as we came to it and she shot to the left, i managed to get her over it, but she knocked it and we were at too much of an angle to get the 2nd jump (it was a double). I circled round while they rebuilt the fence and Enigma went on to fly around the rest of the course clear, So i was a very pleased mum for our first outing! My own style probably went straight out of the window as she took alot of encouragement to get into the fences and i think i held my breath through nerves, so was quite possibly a brilliant shade of blue by the time we finished! :o But she had no problem at all with the size of the fences and really put her faith in me.
We went again this Saturday morning for the same class and we were both much more relaxed. I felt her and me in a much softer rhythm and she was really pinging the fences well. We didn't get placed, but only 4 faulted, so couldn't J.O and although it was a little frustrating as it was for a refusal at quite a scary fence she had flown on the Tues, it was my fault as i should of steadied her and supported her front-end a little more, but i rushed then dropped my contact! Needless to say, she went on to complete the rest of the course with flying colours, so i was still pleased with her. :) I'm just taking it as experience for the pair of us right now. It's easy to forget that this time last year she was a polo pony, she has come on so much and still has a long way to go. But she loves to learn and especially loves to be airborne, so i have every faith in her that her confidence will steadily grow. :) Miss Maximo came with me as my rent-a-groom and took some snaps, thanks Lucie!
I'll take her to Summerhouse on Saturday morning and i have entered the Blue Chip champs at Hartpury on the 1st-3rd April for the BN there, which should be a good experience, so watch this space! :D
Hope you are all well,
Jo & Enigma.
