Oh My! 100% Crabbett?!?
How come? Cloning a miracle? I thought that would now be beyond reach, how long since the stud closed? A friend of mine has a lovely mare thats Eqyption crossed with English Arab that had some Crabbett.
He is very nice by the way! :D

There are actually quite a few 100% Crabbets stallions now :)
Indian Banner, Silver Sandpiper and possibly Winged Saint and a few others. Not too sure mind. It's great that they're not as rare, they are lovely.

Just checked: Crabbett Stud ceased in 1972. Only bloodlines now remain that are preserved by dedicated breeders. :)
He's a lovely looking horse, good strong looking fella and beutifull too.

I have absolutely no idea about Crabbet - when i first read it I thought you mean Crabbit as in grumpy haha as in wasn't allowed near the girlies so was crabbit...
anyway.....
if he is 100% crabbet and the filly you mention is 100% crabbet is that not going to be some in breeding if they cross?
Forgive my ignorance I am totally oblivious to these bloodlines / stud!
But he is an absolutely stunnning specimen of a horse whatever his lines are!!

its inbreeding when it goes wrong and line breeding when it goes right!
they will be related as most crabbet are due to the small gene pool, they are rare, but the bay filly in particular is from australia as the bay gene is long dead in the uk and i think europe, so some fresh blood will go in there from her side.

He is a really stunning horse.
I noticed in his pedigree that several horses( Ludo was one) appeared a few times is this because the lines were dying out? Has it caused any problems?

I know this is probably a stupid question but what is a crabbet? a type of arab?

Crabbet horses all originate back to a handfull of horses imported to the uk by the crabbet stud directly from the desert, they usually are not as fine in the head or limb as other types of arab and are really laid back, hardy and strong, like the original desert horses.
I think the only problem i have seen with the crabbets , apart from them all being grey or chesnut in this country, is a slight inclination to cow hocks.
interestingly the crabbet stud did have welsh cobs too at one point, and you will often find some very cobby looking crabbets and some very araby looking cob's, though the paperwork might say otherwise!

Heres a bit more history on the Crabbett Stud:
Established in the 1800s by an English Lady who had travelled in Arabia and Eqypt. Her and her husband imported many mares and stallions from Eqypt and Syria and in 1924 a stud booklet listed 32 mares and 28 stallions. A stallion called Raseem was listed with a stud fee of 500 guineas at a time when stud fees where around 5 guineas! It finally ceased operations in the 1970s and much of the stock was sold overseas.
The Crabbett Arabs where used to improve Welsh breeds, most notably a stallion called Incoronax bred by Lady Wentworth, by Raseem out of Incoronata (Incoronata was grey but her dam was Bay).
ETA http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/ceulan+silver+lustre2 An example of one such Welsh Pony, the paperwork was all above board :)
